1. Summer Ulpan at IDC

 

IDC Herzliya has constructed a well planned ulpan program which is opening to all olim and tourists. This can be considered part of their 500 hour benefit, or as your continuing ulpan.

July 25th - September 2nd

Monday-Thursday 9:00 – 13:00

4 levels will be offered

NIS 100 registration fee.

Olim chadashim (up to ten years in the country) do not pay a tuition fee.

Tourists pay a $600 tuition fee for the course.

There is no lodging provided at the ulpan.

2. One-day Volunteer opportunity with New Olim

 

The Jewish Agency for Israel will be bringing a group flight from the UK and South Africa and need volunteers to work with young children on Tuesday 27th July at the Ramada Hotel Jerusalem.

 

The volunteers are needed between 9:00am – 4:00pm to assist with running a play area and fun activities for the children.

3. TAKA Program - New options available

 

Taka is opening 5.10.10 - hurry up & register now!

Taka is a pre-academic program meant for new immigrants, eligible for assistance from the Student Authority, who fall into one of the following categories:

- Students with Bagrut equivalent high-school diplomas (such as the English A levels or German Abitur)

- Students with an academic background of at least 2 semesters (30+ college credits)

- Students wishing to study in academic colleges or at Bar Ilan University, those which do not obligate the student with Mechina

- Students wishing to study practical engineering

- Students for masters studies or certificate studies for undergraduates

 

There are 3 Taka options:

1. The Ashkelon Academic College - 10 months for beginner levels 

2. Hadassah Academic College Jerusalem - 5 months for advanced Hebrew levels (conditional upon passing a Hebrew exam)

3. Technion - 5 months - subject to sufficient registration

 

Program of studies:

·         30 weekly hours 5 days a week 8-16

·         Academic Hebrew, academic English for non-English speakers

·         Optional courses in research methods, computer skills, social sciences & mathematics

·         Special courses whihc open according to sufficent registration:

·         Art - preparing a portfolio for art school - Taka Jerusalem

·         Introduction to economics & bankin - Taka Ashkelon

·         Preparation for engineering & science - Technion

 

Preparatory courses for the psychomtric exam - at additional cost, open in various languages according to sufficient registration (Students in Taka Jerusalem can join the course at the Hebrew University)

 

Housing:

Jerusalem - Bet Canada - 600 shekels a month

Ashkelon - on or near camus dorms - first 5 months 900 shekels including one hot meal a day, second 5 months option of 500 shekels per month without the meal

 

Registration:

220 shekels (paid in Israel)

Important information:

- The program itself is completely funded by the Student Authority and does NOT detract from the students 3 year entitlement to tuition grants

- Students who begin Taka must successfully complete the program in order to continue to receive assistance from the Student Authority

- Students on Taka must abide by the rules of the program, including attendance, etc.

- Students on Taka Ashkelon who choose to continue after Taka to study in the Ashkelon College receive an additional grant from the college, aside from the assistance from the Student Authority.

4. Connectlv.com – New Tel Aviv Social Networking Site

Connectlv.com is a new and exciting Tel Aviv Social Networking site. This new Jewish Agency initiative aims at connecting young Olim who reside in Tel Aviv and create a community that shares job opportunities, social events, rental possibilities and more.

5. English speaking summer camp for young learners

Summer is an ideal time to develop or maintain your child's English skills. Using the Jolly Phonics technique your child will learn the ABC, reading and writing in a fun and creative environment.

Activities through July and August in the Old Katamon area.

6. KifKef: Day trips for 9-15 year olds
